Wedded bliss

Wedded bliss board  1. // 2. // 3. // 4. // 5.
Well of course now that Matt and I are getting married, it's only fitting that I start pinning away at wedding blogs! My new board, wedded bliss, is already filling up with ideas for our big day. These are real ideas I'm thinking about for our wedding and not just images I'm admiring from afar {except for maybe that beautiful tree dripping with moss, I imagine the only place I'd find that in California would be on my TV when I'm watching Forrest Gump}. You can follow along as I pin my way into wedded bliss!

We're engaged!!

I'm over the moon to be able to announce that Matt and I are getting MARRIED! Our little trip down to Monterey a few weeks ago turned into a proposal weekend with Matt dropping down on one knee on the patio of a cafe overlooking the bay. It was so romantic that I just had to bawl my eyes out and wait a good hour before I could call my family to share the happy news. It's so surreal to be thinking about our wedding and it's only now starting to sink in. I'm always immediately congratulating brides-to-be when they contact me for their invitations, and it's amazing to think that now I'm a bride-to-be myself!

I know it sounds cliche, but I feel so lucky to be marrying my best friend and soulmate, I'm so overjoyed and can't wait to walk down the aisle next year!

New in the shoppe: Chic is where you find it art print

I've got a lovely new art print that has just been added to Victory Paper Designs' online shoppe! This art print illustrates a quote from American fashion designer, Bonnie Cashin, one of the original pioneers of Coach handbags. From Stephanie Day Iverson, Curator of the Bonnie Cashin Collection:

"Cashin's oft-stated credo, "chic is where you find it," sums up her belief that a "habit of wonder" and an ability to see relationships between objects and ideas far removed from the fashion world were the most important tools for a designer. Rather than look at fashion history, she was apt to cite the "rhythm of poetry or good reading" from John Gardner, Henry Thoreau, Georges Seferis, Buckminster Fuller or Bertrand Russell as a means to stretch her mind and find inspiration for ready-to-wear designs."

{ Victory Paper Designs }

As a designer it can sometimes to difficult to come up with original ideas that aren't just a knock-off of someone else's designs. It's when we think outside of our areas of expertise and allow ourselves to be inspired by other mediums that something truly magical is made; that's what chic is to me. I think this print would be so inspiring for a fabulous workspace. You can pick yours up here while supplies last! x

Neon pastels!

3.1 Phillip Lim via Style.com
Phillip Lim takes the neon trend one step further for Spring introducing a yummy fushion of neon + pastel. While billowy lavendar pants are probably not in my fashion future, I love this color palette's electrically washed out hues.

How to cure dry hair

Hair envy // Soft brush // Michelle Williams // VO5 // Conditioner // Olive oil // Wide-toothed comb
I've been having a major case of the hair blahs lately. Having Asian hair I've usually been blessed to have shiny, smooth locks that I haven't had to give a second thought to when it comes to hair care. All thats changed this winter however, as I've been battling dry, static hair all season long! I'm planning some major hairapy this weekend thanks to tips from Daily Glow.
  • Get a haircut. Go short if you can so that new, healthier hair can replace dry hair.Avoid thin-toothed combs, as these will tear your hair. Use a wide-toothed comb to detangle wet hair. The wide teeth will prevent the hair from being pulled too hard.
  • Brush your hair with only a soft-bristled hairbrush. Baby brushes work the best, as they distribute the natural oils from your scalp throughout the hair follicles. This helps coat dry hair, making it look silkier and shinier.
  • Wash your hair less often, not more. Shampooing every day makes dry hair drier, since it can irritate your scalp and wash away the natural oils in your hair that help combat dryness.
  • Make sure your shampoo contains extra proteins and humectants to repair and enrich dry hair. Use a mild, acidic shampoo that’s formulated for dry hair and contains ingredients like zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide, or coal tar.
  • Condition after every shampoo, and don’t overrinse. A little leftover conditioner helps dry hair shine and be more manageable.
  • Use a heat-activated moisturizing conditioner or over-the-counter oil treatment once a week. Apply generously to your hair and cover your head with a plastic cap. Sit under a hair dryer for 20 minutes or more, since the heat locks in the deep conditioner so that it penetrates the hair.
  • Avoid hair dryers and hot irons. Hair dryers and curling or straightening irons fry the hair, especially when set to high heat. Try rollers instead, or if you must, use a hair dryer on the coolest setting.
  • Reduce or eliminate your use of hairspray, mousse, hair gels, and chemical styling creams. They all make dry hair drier.
  • Massage warm olive oil through dry hair, wrap hair in plastic, and leave in for 30 minutes. Then wash out with a shampoo especially formulated for dry hair.

Save it for a rainy day

My distaste for rain has only grown following this weekend's storm. A night on the town for Matt's birthday quickly turned into puddle dodging and huddling under awnings all while in platform heels {the heels weren't high enough to wade through an obligatory gutter river to get into the car, resulting in wet feet and a sour mood}. But despite the weather, we had a grand time celebrating Matt's big 3-1, and I'm readily prepared to take on the next storm that comes SF's way.

Ladylike living

Rafael de Cárdenas

I'm pretty sure that if I were still living in my studio apartment I'd have to borrow cues from this New York stunner designed by Rafael de Cárdenas. Those inky purple hardwood floors and exposed brick walls are sheer perfection in my book.

As I mentioned before, Sunday is my birthday! I'll be turning 27 and I'm so excited to move into this next phase in my life! From buying a house to making a home with my love and moving forward with my professional career and business, I think 27 is gonna be not too shabby. Celebrate with me virtually, and have a slice of birthday pie, won't you? x

Lonny shoe prints

We all know Lonny Magazine as the online purveyors of pretty interior designs, but I recently discovered that they also have an Etsy shop chalk full of prints that would compliment any chic home. As a daily donner of ballet flats, their shoe series especially entices me; I have pumps in my closet that I don't ever wear but keep around just to admire their loviness. A print like these could satisfy my shoe eye candy cravings without the pain of bunions.

Collage + paint

These posters designed by Sonnenzimmer are just lovely. I love the collage element and rough application combined with a muted color palette. I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at, but I know I likey.

No. 1 // No. 2 // No. 3 // No. 4 // No. 5 // No. 6 // No. 7 // No. 8 // No. 9
Next weekend is my birthday! As part of the festivities, Matt and I are celebrating together {his is 6 days after!} by taking a little trip to Monterey! We're staying at an old bed & breakfast {complete with it's own ghost according to guest reviews} and I'm so excited to take the little beach town in.

Say relax

I've been in serious lounge mode since the end of the holiday craziness. Crepe breakfasts in cozy sweats and afternoon naps are enough to wipe my post-holiday blues.

2012 Resolutions

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6
I'm looking forward to big things in 2012. Matt and I are continuing our hunt for a home, and I'm dreaming up new designs and products for Victory Paper Designs that I'm so excited about. I'm hoping to take a real vacation this year, like pina coladas on the beach status. I really want to get back into a yoga class, it used to be my favorite way to start the weekend. Matt's sister and I are planning on taking a cooking class together to learn how to cook up some yummy recipes for our hubbies. And I plan on writing more little sweet nothings for my lovely love who makes me so happy everyday.

I'd love to hear, what are your Resolutions for 2012??
