 Inpiration board for a project I'm working on. I thought it might be fun to share these from time to time to take a peek into my creative process! For this storyboard, I'm feeling rough brush strokes, imperfect details, navy blue undertones with gold accents, and pops of pink on pale complexions.

How to pair wine and cheese

I'm getting together with some gal pals later this week just before Christmas. We'll be exchanging gifts over wine and cheese and I thought it was the perfect opportunity to explore some different cheese pairings to go with our glasses of vino! I'm far from a wine connoisseur so I found this guide from Delish.com to be extremely helpful in discovering the perfect cheese for different types of wines. I created a visual aid to assist this guide, and thought it might be cool to share with you guys before we scatter off to our holiday parties this weekend!

Photos: FoodCollection/Stockfood America // Layout: Victory Paper Designs
 Cambozola
Native to Germany and Austria, Cambozola is considered a cross between a Gorgonzola blue and Camembert. Cow's milk is the main ingredient of this cheese, with added cream to give it a smooth, creamy, and spreadable texture. For the most part, flavors are mellow and mild with a bit of zip from the blue.
Wine Recommendation: Merlot. A soft, round red wine that has a very supple texture. For Cambozola, choose a Merlot from California. Try Mantanzas Creek Merlot or Shafer Merlot

Goat Cheese
Made purely from goat's milk, goat cheese (also referred to as chèvre) is available in many different shapes and is often rolled in cracked black peppercorns or herbs for added flavor. Characterized by a somewhat sharp and tangy flavor, its texture can be soft, creamy, dry, or firm.
Wine Recommendation: A dry white wine from the Loire Valley region of France. Try Lucien Crochet Sancerre.

Blue Cheese
This family of cheeses — made from cow's milk, goat's milk, and sheep's milk — is treated with molds to produce blue and green veins. Although blue cheeses typically have strong flavors that intensify with age, there are also a few that can be defined as relatively mellow. Their tastes can include a distinct sweetness that's often combined with the salty, sharp, and tangy notes that you'd expect from a blue.
Wine Recommendation: Dessert wines. These sweet wines have intense flavors that aren't overpowered by strong blue cheeses. Try Fonesca Late Bottled Vintage 2000, Taylor Fladgate Special Ruby Porto, or Château Rieussex Sauternes.

Brie
Most often made from raw or pasteurized, whole or skim cow's milk, Brie is French in origin. It's characterized by its soft, creamy texture and a thin, edible rind. Flavor-wise, Brie is somewhat buttery and slightly sweet. Be sure to eat at the peak of ripeness to take advantage of its best flavors.
Wine Recommendation: Champagne and Sparkling Wines. Authentic versions of Champagne are made in Champagne, France, but other areas make it as well. Try Veuve Clicquot Champagne (nonvintage) from France, Freixenet Cava from Spain, or Domaine Carneros Brut from California.

Hand painted wrapping paper

{ Victory Paper Designs }
This year, I wanted to do something to make my Christmas presents for my recipients more special. I decided to incorporate hand-painted designs to each package for a fun and personal touch for my friends and family's gifts!
{ Victory Paper Designs }
I started with a large roll of white banner paper which I used to wrap each gift, and then went to town with black paint and my handy paint brush! I stuck to basic geometric shapes in one corner or end of the package and didn't worry about the precision of my strokes; it adds to the charm of the handmade process!

{ Victory Paper Designs }
I finished each gift off with red and white striped cotton baker's twine and my Desert Rose Gift Tags to complete the look. I'm excited to give these lovelies to my loved ones this Christmas! xo

2011 Holiday Gift Guide: The Pup

1. Humunga Stache Dog Toy via Animals Zone // 2. Dog bowl from Ancient Industries // 3. Wowo ellipse pet bed via Elite Choice // 4. Leash from Cody's Creations // 5. Sherpa A.K.C. Tan nylon duffle via eBay // 6. Bastis hook from Ikea
 Time for another installment of my Holiday Gift Guides! {Catch up on past Gift Guides here!} I must admit, last year I didn't end up getting a present for my pup, but luckily Matt's mom came to the rescue and had some goodies under the tree that Penny just went nuts over! {Moms are good like that, aren't they?} This year I plan to include her in the holiday festivities and at least throw her a bone or two {pun intended}.

I literally laughed out loud at this chew toy that has a big handlebar moustache attached to the ball...I imagine this would look even sillier on my chihuahua and therefore would add to my entertainment. There's many cute colors to choose from with these dog bowls, and this bed is comfy without looking like an eyesore. A polka dotted leash is sure to make her the cutest pup on the neighborhood walk! You can even hang it on this pup shaped wall hook in your entryway! And tote her around in style in this sweet carrier! As always, Happy Shopping! xoxo

Ornament love

Seltzer Studios
 So I guess I'm really into the swing of Christmas around here lately. There's just far too many sweet little Christmas items I've been finding that need to be shared! These ornaments from Seltzer Studios are no exception...the porcelain acorns in particular would look beautiful on a stark little Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

Dreaming of a gold Christmas

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5
 Ever since Moulin Rouge, gold has been my go-to accent color. What better way to add a little luxe to a room than sparkly, shiny gold? I'm completely bummed that I don't get to decorate for Christmas this year given our current living situation. If I had the chance I would have completely decked the halls in gold but making sure to use plenty of neutrals to avoid the tacky factor.

Friday Roundup: Packaging

1. DIY giftbox using Cricut Mini from The Sweetest Occasion // 2. Old library card packaging via Parcel Post // 3. Confetti favor bags from The New Domestic // 4. Gingerbread men gift tags from A Muse Studio // 5. 2012 Wrapping Paper Calendar from Victory Paper Designs (!) // 6. Newspaper wrapping from Allora Handmade // 7. Doilies gift tags by Robbie and Erin
To say that moving during the holidays is stressful feels like an understatement. On top of packing and moving boxes I've been trying to make the rounds on my Christmas shopping and am almost done checking names off my lengthy list. I'm always most excited to wrap presents, especially since I've got some creative ideas to make the packaging special to kind of make up for my lack of funds this year {buying a house is expensive!}. I'll make sure to share those once they're ready to go under the tree, but until then, here's a roundup of other packaging ideas that are sweet in their simplicities {shameless plug for my wrapping paper calendar's gift wrap! There's only a few left!!}

We're moving!

{ Victory Paper Designs }
Matt and I have been house-hunting for a awhile now, but this notice of our relocation isn't cause for celebration just yet. We've had one deal come close only to have it fall through in negotiations, and have now run out of time on our lease to our rental. So this weekend, we'll be packing up and moving out to Pleasanton, the town we've been looking around in, but to a temporary housing situation for the time being.
For those who aren't familiar, Pleasanton is a cute little suburb nestled into rolling farmland further inland and about an hour out from SF. It has the most charming little historic downtown strip and Livermore is an up and coming wine valley just next door. I'm excited to establish my go-to spots around town, and am hoping they've got some great printers nearby! {that aren't Kinkos...}

I'll still be running operations of Victory Paper from my usual desk and kitchen table, only now from my new town of Pleasanton. I'm hoping we'll find a home soon and am excited for this new chapter in Matt and mine's life together!

Orla Kiely in poppy

Orla Kiely

I love the way Orla Kiely's designs have a throwback 1970's vibe but are pulled off in color combinations that don't remind me of tacky mural wallpaper. For their Spring/Summer 2012 collection, they've incorporated bright shades of poppy which has my eyes popping in delight! This will be my go to color for Spring.

2011 Holiday Gift Guide: Mom

 I'm back with another Holiday Gift Guide! {catch up on past Gift Guides right here!} This Guide is full of lovely gift ideas that your mother will surely treasure.

This shade of mint green in the form of a super soft cashmere sweater is pretty much perfect to keep mom warm and cozy. A throw blanket is just the trick to keep cozy around the house too, all while embodying the sophistication of a Diane Keaton home. A large tote in a pretty lilac hue will become her shopping companion, and creamy body butter part of her daily regimen. A copper teapot will charm up any kitchen. This rosemary tree could have the most perfect holiday fixings by dressing it up with ornaments and lights instead of the traditional wrappings!

Stay tuned for more Gift Guides leading up to Christmas! Happy shopping! xo

2011 Holiday Gift Guide: Boyfriends

1. Crosby Archive portable USB turntable from UrbanOutfitters // 2. Mumford and Sons, Cry No More LP from UrbanOutfitters // 3. Bridges Buffalo Check from Jack Spade // 4. Lounge pants from The Gap // 5. Quartz No. 1 terrarium from Score + Solder // 6. BookBook vintage case for iPad from Twelve South
 It's part 3 of my Holiday Gift Guide! {catch up on past guides here!} This time I've got some cool gift ideas for that loveable boyfriend of yours {or husband!}.

Give him the classic sounds of a crackly vinyl record player with this leather bound one that he can tote from place to place. Include some modern vinyl or vintage to add to his collection. I'm loving the stuff coming out of Jack Spade, Kate Spade's cool brother, and this cozy flannel is rockin'. Make the cuddles even more cuddly with some soft sweat pants. Keep his green thumb in check with this cool terrarium complete with prickly cacti and succulents. An iPad case made to look like an old leather bound book is a super cool way to dress up his reader to actually look like a reader! Happy shopping! xoxo
